Of these, more than 60 thousand have taken refuge in Bangladesh while 40 thousand Rohingya are taking refuge in India. Wirathu became a Buddhist monk at the age of 14
Wirathu was born in 1968 in a village near Mandalay in Myanmar. It is said that at the age of 14, Virathu left school to become a Buddhist monk and joined Buddhist gurus. In 2001, he joined the '969 Movement' (three digits 969 is considered a symbol of Lord Buddha) against Muslims. In 2013, he was also sentenced to 25 years for giving provocative preaching against a particular religion, but he was also released in 2012 during the release of political prisoners. Virathu is now active among his followers through social media and other mediums.
In 2013, Wirathu's story appeared on the cover of a magazine and described him as the Osama bin Laden of Myanmar. Virathu says no matter how kind and loving you are but cannot sleep with mad dog. This statement of Virathu is being seen in the context of Muslims. Virathu has been in the discussion many times by giving statements against Muslims. It is said that in Myanmar, Muslims are scared by the name of Wirathu.
At present, more than 80 percent of the people in Myanmar are Buddhists while only 4-5 percent are Muslims. In the communal riots in Myanmar, Rohingya Muslims have been the biggest casualties every time.

Against this oppression, a group of Rohingya Muslims attacked a contingent of Myanmar soldiers, after which the campaign to expel the Rohingyas started here. It is being said that the army here is taking unilateral action and driving the Rohingyas out of the country. There were some 400,000 Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar, of whom about 2,70 thousand have been driven out.
